When the state of Mississippi and Nissan Corp. announced the new auto factory in Canton, Miss., there was a concerted effort to use Mississippi-based contractors. One of these contractors was D.S. McClanahan and Son based in Columbus, Miss. This fifth generation, family-owned business has been doing general construction work since 1884.
McClanahan was awarded a 600,000-square-feet concrete flooring contract for Nissan from general contractor, Yates Construction. According to Stephen Sanders, Vice President of McClanahan, the specifications called for an Ff 30 and Fl 24—no problem since the firm has been hitting Ff numbers in the high 40s and low 50s using Allen Riders, Magic Screeds and Hand Tools purchased through Rental Service Corporation.
Key to the selection of Allen Equipment on this job was our SP450 Rider powered by a 42hp Nissan Engine. The average slab on grade pour has been 20,000 to 40,000-square-feet while elevated deck pours have been 10,000 to 15,000-square-feet.
Nissan, Yates, and McClanahan have been satisfied with the achieved results.
